What is the best way for me to handle my student loan debt?  I graduated in June of this year and during my five years of schooling, I have accumulated $9,473 in Direct Stafford subsidized loans, $12,464 in Direct Stafford unsubsidized loans, $14,813 in Stafford subsidized, $16,169 in Stafford unsubsidized, $11,150 in Federal Perkins loans.  Basically, I’ve accumulated $64,069 in debt, not including the two private loans I have (one with Wachovia and one with Sallie Mae); which are approximately $9,000 combined, including interest.  I have no clue on how to even handle this or where to even begin!  Can anyone please help me??!!  Through doing a little research, I've learned that one should be careful when choosing to consolidate their student loans, because of interest rates.  I really just have no clue on where to begin here.  Any advise is appreciated.
Thanks,

~ Ami   Huh

Depends on your situation.  You need to understand the total amount of your monthly payments and your ability to make each and every payment on time each month. There are a number of resources that you should look at as you start to work toward a decision. One is https://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/AppEntry/apply-online/appindex.jsp. This one is a government site and should (hopefully) have accurate info. They do offer a Q&A process that should help you make an informed decision. Doing a Google search will bring you a number of other information sources. Good luck.
